Episode 614 : Paid Our Dues

YouTube link is here. Again, no kitties! I think they’re hiding with Trish.

This week, we establish our bona fides in the podcast space. Then we talk a lot about movies and TV that we recommend. Then Jas makes us get meta about it. That’s the whole show. Enjoy!

I definitely felt the same way about both Jaws and The Godfather, and that was in line with Tony of “eh, I get the jist,” and both blew me away when I finally watched them well into adulthood. I highly recommend Jaws after seeing it.

My big “eh” things are Ted Lasso and Succession. I hear so much good about both and I can believe Jason Sudeikis is charming and cute, but I think I’d actively hate Succession.

I haven’t seen “Jaws” not because I think “eh”–it’s because: A) already have a shark phobia. Don’t like to take my glasses off when swimming in the ocean, ’cause cuts down on the time that I’d have to get out of the water. Most nightmares in my life have been about sharks; and B) don’t like horror movies generally.

Hitchcock – so I did see Psycho when I was in college. In retrospect, I wish that I hadn’t because the scary-adrenaline rush feeling stayed with me for months–in dark places, at the bottom of staircases, in the shower. I still don’t like to take a shower if I’m the only one home. BUT–all the earlier stuff, I’d highly recommend. “Shadow of a Doubt” in particular has a great female protagonist. I like the female leads in “The Lady Vanishes” as well. (Make sure to see the older version of that one–the one with Michael Redgrave.) “Strangers on Train,”The Man Who Knew Too Much,”The 39 Steps” — all great. (Also good-“Suspicion,”Rope,” “Notoriou,” “North by Northwest” and so on.)
