Episode 511 : Bacon and Tomato

YouTube link here.

We ring out the old year with talk of Christmas, bacon, and Wonder Woman. And then some good old-fashioned sandwich talk. Enjoy!

QUESTIONS:

What’s the best layering method for building a sandwich when wet/slippery toppings are involved, e.g. tomatoes, pickles, etc? –Beth

The previous work Pascal had done, that I was thinking of during the episode, was Narcos, but I’d completely forgotten that he was in Game of Thrones.

Trying to say something about WW1984 here without spoilers. I read something Patty Jenkins said and it might partially explain why Tony might not like Diana in parts of the movie. I think the best way to say it would be to point to what happened to Barbara Minerva’s personality as a result of the main plot device and suggest that something similar happened to Diana.

Of course, the fact that that might not have been apparent is a different problem.

I get what you’re saying. And it would explain a lot. Although it’s NOT apparent, in my opinion, and even if it was, they would need to explain *why* that would’ve happened. Especially since the alternate version has a clear supernatural cause.

We’ve watched all of The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel and are midway through a subsequent watch. I like it and recommend it.

We really enjoyed the first season but then got bored during the second season and dropped it midway – does it pick up? Is it worth us trying again?

Interesting explanation of the origin of holiday Eve, thanks.

I was in DC for a while, but have since moved back to the Iowa City area. I suspect nearly the whole state of Massachusetts and most of Rhode Island are in the suburbs of Boston.

There’s a guy on the east side of Iowa City who runs “Honed to Perfection” out of his house on Prairie du Chien who will do knife sharpening. I took some stuff to him pre-pandemic and it was completely touchless. Prices seemed reasonable too. I think we got 3 knives done for around $15 total. If your knives are dull, get ’em sharpened! For those listeners not in Iowa City, he also accepts work in the mail.

I was actually looking into a professional knife sharpening service, but I am one of those weirdos that have way too many knives so I ended up buying my own knife sharpener at Menards. It was like $60 so I figure I broke even after going through my whole knife block, and I was ahead on the pocket knives. and no one (but the women in my life) will stop me from using it to sharpen my broadsword to a razor edge.
