Simply Having A Wonderful Christmas Time makes me physically ill and I’ve non hyperbolically considered throwing the radio against a wall after hearing it once an hour for 4 hours.

Also, if you are into operatic vocals with easier to connect to lyrics, check out Tarja Turunen. Especially her time with Nightwish.

Other holiday songs besides Christmas songs? Well, you know there is…

    “Hanukkah, O Hanukkah”

But let’s face it, Hanukkah is only a big deal because of it’s proximity to Christmas.

    Here’s a good Pesach song (Passover): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bK8xB1opuQ8

Will is thinking of the Counting Crowns version of “I Heard the Bells on Christmas Day” (which is, as he said, from a poem by Longfellow).

There’s a song by Mike Doughty called “I Hear the Bells” which I decided to count as a Christmas song this year. It does have a lyric about taking place in December so I’ve decided that counts, plus the bells ringing “joyful and triumphant” sounds Christmas-y and is fun to sing at the top of your lungs in the car where no one can hear you. (It was a song played in an episode of the old Veronica Mars series, and what can I say, I loved that show :)) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=33Wv0SQuqCc

Wow, I’m lucky I’ve missed those songs (Christmas Shoes, Do They Know It’s Christmas Time). My Dad wrote a parody version of a maudlin Christmas song that he called “Christmas in the Sky” where parents sing to ask Santa to visit their little girl in heaven and fill her stocking in the Christmas in the Sky. We always thought he’d actually make a lot of money if he sold it to someone.

Rockapella is the name of the group who sang on Where In The World is Carmen Sandiego. I’ve seen them in concert at Hancher, promoting their Christmas album. I had their Carmen Sandiego album on tape, and then also on CD. They’re still a group, with several of the original members, and have several albums.

I only remember a few of Carmen’s henchmen: Double Trouble,
    Robo Crook (?)

I agree with you, Christmas Shoes and the Africa song don’t make sense with their staying power. I have recently transitioned to really liking the musicality of O Holy Night, too. I don’t really like It’s Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas either, I think it’s based on the kids wanting gender stereotypical toys, and the parents wanting school to start again – sorry if I’m ruining it for you William. I tend to kind of like the music for Baby it’s cold outside, but since being pointed out as a date rape song, I don’t care for the lyrics, and am often off-put from the song entirely.
I realized I don’t like about 50% of Christmas songs on the radio, and it really bothers me that they start playing Christmas music in early November, but then turn it off on December 26. I’d much rather if I could still listen to holiday tunes while completing my holiday travel. Why don’t they play it until New Year’s? If they started later, people wouldn’t be so sick of it already.
