I wanted to mention something about the way the shooting in Las Vegas is being covered by much of the media, which has led to most of us (including myself) referring to it as the “worst in U.S. history.” An article I read pointed out that this is only true if we are thinking of modern history, and defining “modern” as beginning mid-20th century. In the 19th century and first half of the 20th century, there are examples of larger numbers of people being massacred, either by guns or other means. All of those incidents involve the killing of Asian-Americans, African-Americans, and Native-Americans by European-Americans.
