Funny/serious mix was really good on this episode. (Now imagining a dial on the podcast for that.)

Brokecast Mountain! That was funny on many levels. 🙂

My favorite category of word that’s like homonyms, homophones, and the like are the words that mean their own opposite–words like “cleave.” I think they’re sometimes called antagonyms, but my favorite descriptor is Janus words. I mean really, is there any better example of how weird language can be, and how projects like Leibniz’s universal and logical language are just never going to happen. Well, he was an optimist after all.

I suppose “literally” is now a Janus word? While I also generally come down on the usage side, I don’t like this change ’cause it takes a word out of the language (figurative) and then also leaves a gap where the original meaning of literally was without a replacement. A recent usage change that I like is using “they” as the indefinite pronoun.

Goatees are always the color of your soul. Since you’re Alternate Universe (Evil-verse?), all goatees are black.

Atychiphobia: No, all the voices in my head tell me that none of my fears are irrational.

William as Jamie Hyneman: Wow, now there’s an interesting image. Though maybe an auWilliam could pull off the harsh, gruffness.

    Chasm, scimitar, melee: Enough said.
