The irony about an episode that talks about people bragging about weakness in a Mystery Episode that went up because Tony hurt his back.

… is very amusing to me.

      Identifying factors:
I identify with Tony’s point of parts of one’s life that goes away in some way and having conflicting emotions about how it impact of their identity.

      • Bloodsparrow says:

The idea of weight and how I look has a very serious impact about how a fair portion of nerds/geeks/gamers relate to me as a fellow nerd/geek/gamer AND a woman. The better I look, the less serious they’re going to take me. Which doesn’t stop me, but it is something I think about.

On the subject of Tony’s co-workers commenting on his slimming down and looking like he’s in less pain.

I don’t think they were thinking anything before because that’s all they knew you as. And now that they see the changes, they can compare and it brings the past more into the focus.

William – you just don’t know enough about pageants to know that second of difference, a millimeter of distance, or one sentence out of place can completely derail an entire lifetime of practice. Though, you are correct, most academic pursuits are more forgiving.

Is it just me or did auWilliam seem a little too nice to be from the evil universe? Oh wait, never mind; I just didn’t wait long enough there’s some evilness.

I thought I heard the auProducer in the background, but couldn’t make out what she said.

Weaknesses: auTony’s example was in fact the example I meant. As for it being a competitive vs pride thing, I don’t know that one can be competitive about something that they aren’t proud of. But if one accepts that people can be competitive about things they aren’t proud of that doesn’t explain why people would feel the need to compete on such a thing. Though the idea that this is really a defense mechanism might be the most likely answer, definitely have to think about that further.

    Nobodoy’s proud of fire…except maybe Prometheus… 😀
