  1. Bloodsparrow says:

Rockford/Crazy Ivan – Was orrigonally called a “Bootlegger” and was a manuver supposedly developed by early NASCAR driver, Jr. Johnson, to get away from the cops when he was running moonshine for his Dad. The idea being that the cops would be chasing him, he would pull ahead, turn a corner or get some sort of obscuing scenery between him and the cops. Pull one of these to turn around super quick, and then pass the cops going the other way. They, not knowing how to do a Bootlegger/Rockford/Crazy Ivan, would have to waste time turning around somehow and he would get away.

Portly Paladan: The best I did was to post my Run For Your Lives video. I couldn’t make the video where I show Tony how to do calf raises public. : / So yes, he’s a better man then I.

    • Bloodsparrow says:

Fallout: New Vegas – If you’re talking about Dead Money DLC… There is a casino… I think you can get banned from gambling there, but… Well, you’ll see.

      • Bloodsparrow says:

Skyrim doesn’t make me motion sick and I’m quite prone to that. Or I was… Now a days, I only get motion sick if it’s made on an Unreal engine.

    • Bloodsparrow says:

Dragon Age RPG Table Top episodes.

Yes, Chris did say that he based his character on Fonzie, but he really didn’t do much with that asside from using some percussive maintenence on something like one time.

      • Bloodsparrow says:

Sam was very fun on those episodes of Table Top. I’ve never seen the US version of Being Human, or anything else he’s been in. He looks like the type of guy you would cast as a vampire. (That’s not a dig at the guy, just a statement.)

        The mullet thing killed me.

      • SirGuido says:

I love Chris. I love The Nerdist. I would punch him in the throat if he was in a game I ran.

    • Bloodsparrow says:

Sherlock’s faults – Don’t get me started. Just really don’t

      • Bloodsparrow says:

Watch the first three seasons of Supernatural and then STOP.

Although I’m told that the seasons of Sup from 4 on are good… I just don’t have that kind of time.

    • Bloodsparrow says:

Sound Equipment – The background hiss is ALMOST gone. I think it’s still there, but it’s not very noticeable IMO

    • Bloodsparrow says:

Branding – You answered your own question. I don’t really have the energy to explain branding right now.

Though as somebody with an MBA with a focus in Marketing I do feel like I should say that it’s not about thinking people are sheep. (Not for me anyway.) It’s about letting people know that your product is in line with what is important to them.

For instance, Tylenol. Asprin. Most of their marketing was about pain management for many years. But now people aren’t interested in pain, they’re interested in being healthy. Now Asprin, it’s been found, is good for more then just pain management. So they shifted their brand to highlight that fact and talk to people on a subject in which they were interested. (Over all health and preventative medicine.)

Does that mean people have forgotten they can take Tylanol if they have a headache?

    • Bloodsparrow says:

I honestly don’t remember sending that question in. Let me check my email records and see when I sent it…

      • Bloodsparrow says:

I appreciate the Sweet Home Alabama call back Tony.

        • Bloodsparrow says:

Okay so I apparently sent the email on Feb. 1…

Well, at the time I was reading a book called “Mindless Eating” (http://tinyurl.com/boluzyu), which was suggested to me by my Health Coach. And I was thinking a lot about outside factors that have an impact on what and how much you eat.

NO WAIT! I remember now. On that day I ate at a new resturant near where I live. They were having having a soft open where you could eat there for free just to try it out. But they had JUST moved in so there were a few things missing, including the fact that they had no music playing. So it was kind of… odd… It was SO quiet and it was a little off putting. This got me thinking about when I was eating at a resturant where they were playing… I think the term for it is “Smooth Jazz”… Which I don’t like, and it had a negative impact on my dining experience. And then I was thinking, “Well, what kind of music would I want playing?”

And then I thought, “I should email the Hat with that question.”

So you say that it was a bad question at first but you talked for quite some time on it and ended up having opinions. (Tony did anyway.)

  2. SirGuido says:

Thank you very much for your kind words William. When I first started doing my videos on my weight loss I had next to no subscribers and pretty much gave up for a while. During that time I thought about it a lot and realized how much of a help it would be for me if I had someone that I could relate to telling me what their journey was like. So after some thought I started up again. Now, almost every week I have to delete 1-2 “Dude… FAT!” comments because people are ridiculous, but it is what it is. I have quite a few subscribers now(in my terms anyway) and I get comments and emails somewhat often that make me realize that its making at least some difference. I even have one subscriber who only watched my videos because her husband is a Happy Jacks fan and after watching they decided to join Weight Watchers and she pretty much solely credits me for her weight loss(which I don’t agree to, since she’s the one who put in the effort). I do it now as a way to share my experiences with other people, and it keeps me motivated as well. Knowing I have my subscribers to face every week means that I don’t slack off as much as I normally would.

  3. Mark says:

Anniversary gifts: The 2nd anniversary is Cotton. Also, I think most listeners are waiting for the 3rd anniversary before sending in gifts; since ya know that’s the leather anniversary….

Legend of Neil: Hehehehe, enough said.

1st/3rd Person perspective: I tend to prefer 1st person as I find most 3rd person perspective games have poor automatic camera control; where the camera sometimes ends up in different rooms or inside of walls.

Warrior mullet? I know I’m behind in my watching of table top, but didn’t realize I was missing out on such comedy gold as that. šŸ™‚

Being Human UK vs US: I saw an episode or 2 of the US version before I knew there was a UK version and it seemed interesting. Then I watched the first season or so of the UK and it was ok, but it never really developed. And actually I’d say the ghost probably had the most problems with her “condition”.

Warehouse 13 is a different ball of wax altogether. That’s a show that knows it’s not very good and revels in being a b-list tv show. Additionally it’s not a good enough show to be worth spending a bunch of time binge-watching.

Elementary: I’m likely this less and less as it does on, though I still tend to have it on if I’ve got nothing better to do when it’s playing. It just doesn’t engage me at all.

Castle: This is definitely not it’s best season but it’s still engaging me. I think half the reason I watch this is to do my bit to be sure the ratings stay up and Nathan Fillion has work. šŸ™‚

Bones: We’ve been watching this on Netflix and I’ve been enjoying it, more or less. My wife likes these sorts of shows more than I do and occasionally tries to get me to watch this during dinner. *shudder* I finally insisted on never watching Bones again during meal times (its corpses tend to be too squicky).

Murder/police procedural shows: Yup, I’ve watched quite a few of these too. Side note: how much would it suck to be a friend of Jessica Fletcher? I swear every friend of hers in that damn show either ends up dead or a murder.

Tony’s correct: that move is totally a Crazy Ivan. Yes, William it is and maybe had a previous name before Firefly but post-Firefly that’s the only name it could have.

Hey, I got a nod in the show! šŸ™‚

    Congrats on remission Blueclaw!

The Producer once again takes her role as the boss of you and you and you. :p

Do you think The Magical Talking Hat will ever get a magical upgrade to use ticker-tape instead of half of 3×5 cards? That way you wouldn’t have to condense the questions.

KFC: Snopes has your back on the logic behind this name change. They acutally changed the name as the state of Kentucky trademarked their state name and KFC didn’t want to pay licensing fees.

Sci-Fi/Syfy: Wasn’t part of this stupid change that they couldn’t trademark the generic term “Sci-fi” but a completely made-up piece of poo like “Syfy” could be?

Chris Hardwick: I get a lot of pleasure out of listening to several podcasts from the Nerdist; but yeah, I think if I met him in person I’d hate him. Side note: Did you know Chris Hardwick does a special feature for Wreck-it Ralph (at least in the Blu-Ray version)? The disc automatically plays (by default, though it can be turned off in the menus) an “intermission” segment whenever you pause the movie. The intermission is Chris Hardwick explaining various things about the movie, pointing out various things you might have missed (e.g. the graffiti in Game Central varies but some of it are catch phrases from Street Fighter).

Was that Pringles jingle your attempt to get Pringles to be an official sponsor of The Magical Talking Hat?

Umm, maybe The Four Seasons by Vivaldi? Either that or maybe Weird Al’s Eat it.

Food at my wedding: umm, cake? I think there were sandwiches, but Michelle & I didn’t really get to eat at the wedding so I don’t remember the meal so much.

Panchero’s food is fine, but it suffers from the same problem I have with 90% of restaurants. All of them are too bloody loud. I swear to god I want to punch in the throat whoever thought it was a good idea to make every flipping restaurant into large, open boxes with hard surfaces and no sound barriers.

Talking & food do tend to get in the way of each other.

My chiropractor uses Pandora and they used to take requests but lately they just play whatever they feel like.

America: Of course you hear more about the bad things; fear sells easier than happy.

    Episode Title: 105: A Cotton-Pickin’ Good Time?

    • Beth says:

      MARK!
      1) If Kentucky Fried Chicken had already trademarked its name, how could Kentucky come along, trademark theirs, and then force the restaurant chain to pay royalties? Also, for what purpose would a state trademark its name at all (minus, of course, trying to extort money out of chicken lovers).

      2) Pringles used to be a P&G product, but they just got bought by someone, I think Kellogg. (and now that I’ve said anything about P&G or one of its products, I have to identify myself as a P&G employee per our social media rules)

      3) I was thinking of Vivaldi’s Four Seasons as good music for eating. How weird is that?

  4. Beth says:

Tony: I’m disappointed you didn’t call the episode “A Kraving for some FC”
