Episode 617 : Let’s Talk About Sex, Baby!

YouTube link here, featuring sweaterless Ezzie!

Yep, this week we spend the majority of the episode talking about sex! Don’t be worried (or excited), though. William is never visibly uncomfortable, so you know it’s not that explicit of a conversation. Also, we spend a little time on the basic essentials… kitty sweaters, action movies, etc. No emails, sadly. Enjoy!

Re: Adult video games, it makes sense to me that there would be a market for them. A lot of people want narrative as part of erotic content, and I would say that for some segment of the population, games have replaced film or the written story as their narrative of choice.

Glass Onion–I have a slight preference for Knives Out as the mystery seemed more clever. Or maybe it’s like Tony said, I’m just getting used to Rian Johnson’s shtick. But I liked Glass Onion and that it was much funnier. Probably the campiness bothers some folks.

Doom Patrol–the first comic I read as a kid and the one that I liked the best. Unfortunately pretty much all of what I liked is missing in the show. I’m talking 1960s Doom Patrol which was still weird (Monsieur Mallah!) but not as weird as it got later. I have stuck with the show, I think mainly ’cause the over the top craziness pulls me in somehow, but there are things I really don’t like about it–primarily the characterization of Robotman/Cliff. I like the third season the best and I wonder if there was a change in writing along with the new cast member? There’s certainly a plot line in which I really began to care about the characters in a way I hadn’t before.

John Wick– I like all of them. Actually, the third one is my favorite–A) I thought it was a hoot & B) It seemed to be commenting on the popularity of the John Wick series and action movies in general in a clever way. And C) I have a really good memory of going to see it. I think at the time there were a bunch of movies that both my son and I wanted to see so we went to a matinee of John Wick, and then drove to another town to see this Chinese film which unfortunately got the English title “Long Day’s Journey Into Night.” That one is about a detective’s memory of a woman who disappeared. It’s very noir in style, but also very experimental. The whole last part of the movie is a dream that the detective is having. Anyway, hadn’t done a movie marathon like that in a while, and liked both the movies and had fun talking about them afterwards.

I think Cliff is the biggest reason Trish bailed. She doesn’t really care about Rita, Larry, or Dorothy, and she kind of likes Jane, but she hates Cliff so much!

I’m slowly starting to learn the extent to which other people’s enjoyment or hatred of media can tell you almost nothing about how you (I) will feel about it. A lot of factors have driven that home in the last few years, but I think the biggest is that William and I can agree on every aspect of a show or movie, but one of us liked it and one of us didn’t. 🙂

Yeah, recently in a conversation among a group of friends of mine, one of them said that Glass Onion was one of the worst movies she had ever seen. I said that I kind of liked it, and then she seemed very embarrassed and apologetic. I told her there was no need to apologize; she wasn’t saying something critical about me. But I think there’s that assumption among many people–to not like something that someone else likes means that you don’t like something about them?

Of course! If I say something is bad, and you like it, then you are bad. That’s just basic math, Jas! 😛

Oh yeah, Detective Monday?! You and your math police will never hold me. I believe in intransitive relations!!!
