Episode 586 : Jas Heads

YouTube link here. As usual, I’m not wearing pants.

I couldn’t find it. I couldn’t find the brilliant title. But we had a few good honorable mentions, so I went with this one. It’s also good.

This week, it’s a lot of Star Wars, a little Star Trek, and some Occulus. Then we discuss advertising. Quite a lot. Plus several random anecdotes that don’t relate to anything. Enjoy!

Pros of bombas, the seam free toes is really comfy. They’re super soft, stay in place, look and look nice. They stay up but that’s never really been a problem with my old socks.

Cons: expensive, even getting a pack, using a coupon and buying on a sale weekend they still worked out to $10 a pair. Like you said, that could get you and a homeless shelter a lot of plain socks. Also they didn’t solve the one issue I was hoping for, which is to not dig into my thick ankles and calves. My lower body is very muscular and I stays have sock marks. It was either try these in the next size up from my shoes or get the super stretchy diabetic socks. They aren’t worse than any others and that’s mostly a me issue.

I’ll let you know long term if they are more durable and hope long they stay soft, and so far the honey comb design is a wash to me too, I don’t really notice either way and it might just be a gimmick.

Hrm… that’s a bit disheartening. That’s quite a bit of money for socks. Do keep me posted, but yeah, maybe not for me..

    Re: George Lucas racism

I teach the movie “The Searchers” in my Intro to Film course, so when I first saw Attack of the Clones, I really noticed how the raid on the Tusken Raider camp was shot-for-shot a copy of the ending of The Searchers. However, Annakin’s character merges the actions of two characters from The Searchers, the character, Ethan, who starts off as a hero, but by the end of the movie, is explicitly condemned for his racism against Native Americans, and the younger character, Martin, played by Jeffrey Hunter, who becomes the hero by the end of the movie. Anakin, like Martin, is dropped off a cliff to enter the camp. But then Anakin, beheads the Tusken Raider in a shot that matches Ethan scalping the Native American character, Scar.

Overall, the critique of the way white people treated Native Americans is really interesting to me in The Searchers, and I think comes off more as a plot device to explain Anakin’s turn to the dark side in Attack of the Clones.

Re Legion: Cary and Kerry Loudermilk. I was so excited when I realized that the guy who played Cary Loudermilk (Bill Irwin) was Mr. Noodle from Sesame Street.

Re Stranger Things: Yeah, this season is much better. I just finished episode 3 which was a great, classic, horror 3-part plot. Plus I have a whole new appreciation of that Kate Bush song, “Running Up that Hill.” There is a fun cameo this season to (if cameo is quite the right word).

I was super into Bill Irwin on Legion. I remember him from an episode of The Cosby Show, but yeah, basically anytime you wanted a modern clown in the 80s, he was the guy. He showed up so many places, but apparently transitioned into acting at some point. And he’s really good at that, too!
