  1. Beth says:

There’s a song by Rockapella, the group who did the Where in the World is Carmen SanDiego theme song, called Capital, which lists all the US capitals. It’s my usual mental go-to for remembering states, but involves a lot more converting/remembering to get to a list of states than your song does.
My brother was the Illinois state Geography Bee champion when in 8th grade and got to go to DC to compete in the national geo bee. It asks questions on all those topics William mentioned; capitals, rivers, neighboring nations, gdp, chief exports, languages spoken, land features, etc. I think he did a lot of atlas reading to learn these things. He’s still quite good at it, though it’s a skill rarely called upon. It does not directly translate to being good at giving directions or being able to navigate around a new city based on having previously looked at a map.

Thank you for reminding me of Rockapella! I haven’t thought of them for ages!

Your brother should never leave the country. He’s hot geographic shit here, but I’m betting he’d be pretty mediocre in other countries. Big fish, little pond, etc… 😉

  2. Mark says:

Favorite vegetable: Corn. Specifically, corn on the cob heavily buttered & salted and wrapped in foil and grilled. Also per the USDA, corn can be either a grain or vegetable.

Happiest person in the world: Are you really that sure William isn’t?

Melon: Watermelon, Cantaloupe, Honeydew (Best -> Worst).

I wonder if Tony has actually re-watched Short Circuit by this point. I too was of the right age to greatly enjoy Short Circuit when it originally came out, but I suspect that I’d hate it if I watched it today. I have such fondness/nostalgia for it, and I don’t want that ruined.

    Brian Blessed: GORDON’S ALIVE?!?!?!
