Miami of Ohio is in Oxford, Ohio
Ah…. due to the indigenous Oxford tribe of the Ohio River Valley. For which the University in England is named. 🙂
I’m with you two that these are not really examples of irony; they’re mostly examples of things that are sad or unfortunate. In order for the “contrary to expectations” metric to work, there has to be enough verbal/social context; it can’t just be that someone says “I wasn’t expecting that” after it happened. And examples like “rain on your wedding day” or “traffic jam when you’re already late” don’t meet that criterion, whereas the Luddites setting up a website to recruit members, does.
And of course, this is only situational irony. There’s dramatic and verbal too, so plenty of stuff to choose from. I think you could probably do both of those in a song as well.
Ted Lasso–argh, I don’t know if I can add yet another streaming service!
Maybe ability to create and appreciate irony is the dividing line between humans and other animals.
Just get the free trial of Apple TV+, and then binge it. 🙂
