Episode 528 : Only the Good Die Jung

YouTube link here. The new color is Akyra, by Zoya.

This week, the connection is stable! More or less. Lots of big announcements, plus Tony talks at length about things no one else cares about. Including movies no one should see, movies no one else probably COULD see, the best and worst pizza ever! Enjoy!

QUESTIONS:

Do you have any meals you specifically enjoy because you know there’ll be leftovers? –Craig

Congratulations to Will again about starting the Master’s Program.

I think you’ll be a great therapist, and while I think knowledge of particular types of therapy is important, I don’t think that knowledge is what does or doesn’t make a successful or unsuccessful therapist, but how a person relates to others generally, which is why I think you’ll do so well. 🙂

I watched the first episode of Shadow & Bone, and I finished The Irregulars (despite not liking it initially), and am about three episodes into The Nevers.

I agree with everything Tony said about The Irregulars. The show generally got better for me as it went along, particularly when a one character was introduced. Lucky for them, I was so sick after my second shot that I was looking for basically anything to watch while lying on the couch–which is why I wound up getting through the stuff I didn’t like initially. I do hope they get a second season now.

Shadow & Bone seems very good to me, primarily for the world-building. I only know the characters from The Six of Crows (the heist-plot characters), and I like the casting there, especially Kit Young for Jesper. Kaz Brekker is actually a great character, but they’re going to have to do backstory before we see any depth to what’s going on at the moment.

I’m also really liking The Nevers which seems to have very little romance so far. I especially like the friendship between the two female leads.

Good to hear, about the Nevers. We’ll probably watch it eventually, but its pedigree made us… nervous.

      • jas says:

I will say that the two main female characters are pretty parallel to Buffy and Willow.

Having finished the season (and so, now past the Whedon as showrunner part), I would say things took an unexpected and very interesting turn.

I really do want to see it. We’ve just got so much on our list… and honestly, we don’t watch very often anymore. Maybe I’ll watch it on my own.

Wow, I think I like almost anything as a leftover. I usually try to cook more than enough of anything I’m making for dinner so that I can reheat and have leftovers.

Probably soups and stews would be favorites, though pizza is pretty high up there as well. I recently made a pizza with a garlic cream sauce, roast potatoes, mozzarella and bacon bits that was delicious cold the next day (and also good heated up). I also really like carmelized onion, sausage and arugula pizza. Or the same toppings but with fennel in place of arugula.

Challenge accepted next time Pizza Hut is considered. And best leftover is Fried Chicken, hands down. I dare say cold fried chicken may even be better than fresh

    • themagicaltalkinghat says:

I think your opinion is common, Azuretalon. I’m one of those weirdos who isn’t that into cold fried chicken. It’s not as crispy, and tastes more dry to me. I’ll eat it, fine, but I prefer fresh.

But yeah, I think I’m in the minority.

William – Purdue OWL (online writing lab?) is a source I’ve used many many times for helping me to format papers and their citations correctly in APA style.

Also, Congratulations – after 10 years you’re figuring out a way to be able to charge Tony for his therapy sessions (aka this podcast).

I will consider the Pepperoni Lovers + bacon challenge, but if I order Pizza Hut, it’ll be a hand-tossed. Because in general, why waste pizza calories on thin crust pizza?

I agree with Tony – I’m not that big on cold fried chicken, and reheated fried chicken is not good. There are times when I’ve wanted KFC take-out, but decided not to because I thought it would be no longer hot when it got back to my house.

I eat most things as left-overs without a problem. We usually plan that we’ll cook one night and also eat the same meal the next night. I tend not to prefer quiche or lasagna or other dense leftovers because they’re so difficult to reheat evenly; much better on night one.

I’m with the Producer, I got Pfizer and generally felt pretty good after both shots. My husband got Moderna and was knocked out from it for about half of the next day.
