Now that you’re recording the podcast remotely; have you considered bringing in special guests, guest speakers, more servants for TMTH? –Mark McKibben

  1. Bloodsparrow says:

So I watched the video so that’s where my commentary is, but here’s the two most important things I have to contribute…

    1. Jake from State Farm started in like 2014… So no old Jake from State Farm is in another new version where new Jake from State Farm calls over the wall of his cube “Hey do they ever ask you what you’re wearing?” And old Jake leans out from behind the cube wall and says “Uh yeah.” And then New Jake gets back on the phone and continues to describe the rest of his outfit.

    2. Yes. I’d totes be on an episode, sign me up!

Okay, I’m glad they at least gave a nod to old Jake from State Farm.

Now I feel like they’re just saying only people named Jake can work there.

Oh, crap! How many customers do you think make the “joke” to folks they call at State Farm, calling them Jake? That must suck.

  2. jas says:

My recommendation for a happy something to watch would be Queer Eye. Of course I do tear up pretty much at the end of every episode, but still, happy.

The thing that always bugged me about the Jake from State Farm original episode is that the joke is that the husband is talking to a guy.

I used to teach V is for Vendetta in a Speculative Fiction class, but the last time I taught it was the year of the Boston Marathon Bombings because a lot of students in class seemed to draw parallels between government manipulation in the film and what they had heard was the false flag of the bombings. And just thinking about the plot right now and the fact that there’s centrally the release of a virus by the government, I’m wondering whether conspiracy theorists are referencing it.

I do indeed second Tony about Pose. But I keep thinking there’s a new season when in fact I already watched season 2 on F/X! Now I need the third season already.

Your right, the weird homophobic tinge to the State Farm commercials has aged *very* poorly.

  3. Azuretalon says:

Freddie’s is amazing! Yes, I can draw a parallel to Steak and Shake also, but out local S&S spots are beyond nasty these days so I just don’t go. I tell people Freddie’s is a clean S&S with top-notch employees.

    • themagicaltalkinghat says:

We’re really getting into them. And they’re on our local delivery app, as opposed to S&S who I think is only on either GrubHub or DoorDash.

  4. Beth says:

Yes, I was probably the one late to the game before; I’m interested in participating in episode 500.

  5. Mark says:

Jake from State Farm: I remember the original ads, but these days I use a combination of uBlock Origin (browser extension) and Pi-Hole (network ad blocker) so it’s very rare for me to see ads online anymore. That combined with never watching live TV; I’ve not seen these new ads you’re describing.

Dennis O’Neil: I wasn’t aware of who this was or that he’d passed.

William’s audio problems were obviously caused by his computer using the NSA’s microphone….

Speedracer: I didn’t see the movie and wasn’t a fan of the cartoon; so don’t really have anything to say about that.

Control: Not sure if this is still relevant to you Tony, but a later update did add something the developers call Assist Mode options that lets you set adjust the difficulty, see https://screenrant.com/control-update-assist-mode-difficulty-options-awe-expansion/

Guest apperances: Yes, I would be interested in being on the podcast again.
