Lots of catching up this week. Discussion of gaming, gamers, and how William feels about the news. This is part one of a two-parter. Enjoy!

  1. William says:

Oops… I think you were right, Tony, and I misunderstood what the DC post was on G+. Lucifer has been showing up in other new comics, so DC used that opportunity to get people turned on to the old Lucifer books.

    Sorry for the confusion!

Revolution by R. Brand comment follow up.

I didn’t want to like this one, but heard so much buzz about it, I had to try it on.
Russell Brand seems to have matured and has some practical insights on how to get out from under this illusion of shame, deprivation, and isolation in western culture. I agree with Russell in that we need to kill a corporation, or two.

p.s. William: Seriously, see the original Arthur. It’s required American film viewing.

    • William says:

I’ll add it to the growing list of films that folks say are required American film viewing but that I haven’t seen. 🙂

I haven’t seen Revenge of the Nerds either. And you can’t make me! 🙂

I was inspired to check out Revolution on audible. I’m enjoying it, thought it’s not at all what I was expecting. I guess I’d mostly describe it as a memoir? There’s quite a lot about his religious beliefs (Christian and Buddhist primarily), his value system, how he copes with his addictions, etc. I was thinking it was primarily going to be political theory, and there’s certainly some stuff about his political beliefs, but not as much as I was expecting. He’s definitely a smart, interesting guy.

    • jas says:

Now that I’m a bit further in I’m getting more about the political ideas. These are primarily centered in things like David Graeber’s ideas about consensus building and use of the internet as alternatives to the present voting system.

  4. jas says:

Can’t remember whether it was this episode that brought up “The Sandman,” but I wanted to thank Tony for recommending them to Will. I borrowed the entire series from Will one time and now I teach some of them pretty regularly. 🙂

  5. jas says:

A cautionary tale for those of us thinking of doing a podcast! Thank goodness!

    …wait….

  6. Mark says:

Cautionary tale? Does this make you guys the experts who keep the rest of us safe?

Game Patches: Most people I know would vote for game-breaky bugs first, but most companies will view exploits as game-breaky issues and so those get fixed first.

Kingsman: Action+Spy-Fi and massively over the top, but in a good way.

Russel Brand: Totally unfamiliar with him.
