Episode 137 : William’s Accidental Porn

I’m gonna be honest, folks… we recorded two episodes tonight, so I don’t really remember what we talked about in this one. Except for a some porn, and some movie soundtracks. But it was really good stuff, I swear! Enjoy!

Hey, wow, I can hear you guys too!

  2. jas says:

How many people have a hat like that? Well, I don’t usually get scraps of paper, more like rhinoceroses or lions, but then again, I don’ know my own strength. Sometimes I think I’ve got to get a different hat…

  3. jas says:

Frank Miller Batman + Adam West voice: on that recent PBS documentary series about comics, Adam West did all the readings from Batman comics including the Frank Miller ones. It was so weird!

  4. jas says:

Yeah, when William shows up for our podcast, his t-shirt’s pressed, his hair’s been combed, nice clean shave… sorry Tony…

  5. jas says:

Great news about the Feminist Club!

  6. jas says:

Williams’ accidental porn—titled “Even Greater Thresholds”? 😉

  7. jas says:

I think you both stopped watching “Arrow”? I continue to like it (more this season than last), and they’re beginning to incorporate a lot more of the DC universe.

  8. jas says:

You guys have a great soundtrack. I love the opening music…

Warner bros. cartoon soundtracks are awesome 🙂

Some older soundtrack composers that are really great:

Erich Korngold: The Adventures of Robin Hood, Captain Blood, The Sea Hawk

Bernard Herrmann: most Hitchcock films, Ray Harryhausen films, the Twilight Zone

Elmer Bernstein: To Kill a Mockingbird. He was also the musical director for the Thriller video

A really, great soundtrack–Leonard Bernstein’s for On the Waterfront

A modern one, that’s more great for the collection of songs–Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels

You guys talking about editing made me think of this that I had read this week:

  10. Mark says:

Gone Home: Hmm, that sounds like a bargain…

Sue Klaus/Dianne Wiest: I don’t know about her playing her. The idea just doesn’t work for me.
Dav-of-Id/David Duchovny: Not really knowing Dav-of-Id, just on a comparison of their faces based on our brief meetings I could see David Duchovny playing the role.

21/Alcohol: Am I the last person in this country who didn’t go out drinking before it was legal for me to do so?

Lotto Tickets are a tax on the stupid.

RIPD: Yeah, I can’t imagine spending money directly to pay to see though if/when it hits Netflix streaming I can imagine watching this on some boring Sunday afternoon.

Castle: Yeah, I’m still watching this but not really enjoying it much any more. And to be completely truthful, I’m usually playing a game or doing something else while it’s on.

Cookie Clicker: Yeah, thanks to the Frozen Cookie script I’ve not only reset my game a couple of times; I’ve purchased 129/135 upgrades, gotten 96/99 achievements and even collected 2 “Shadow” achievements.

WAP: Umm…. I’ve got no idea how to respond to this.

Soundtracks: William’s correct that it depends upon the soundtrack and sometimes even which version of the soundtrack you get. For example, the physical CD copy of Scott Pilgrim vs the World only has the score; while the digital download version also includes some the video game musical sound clips from the movie (level up, extra life, etc…).

Side note: The soundtrack to Tron: Uprising (set between Tron & Tron: Legacy) is quite good.

I honestly can’t remember if I wrote this question or not. Either way, we played movie soundtracks at our wedding over cocktail hour. I still don’t know if any of our guests “got” it, but I don’t care, I liked it and at the very least, I don’t think any of them were offended by the choice.
I think the soundtrack for Gone with the Wind is pretty good as one that is more orchestral, as is Titanic (even with the Celine Dion song) and I like the one from Love Actually for the compilation of songs from the movie (though they used some more pop type songs AS score, in addition to regular, wordless score which I also like). The classical radio station I used to listen to while working on my thesis used to have movie soundtracks played every day at 10am. Ones that came up frequently were Harry Potter, Batman, and LOTR.
I do think the soundtracks are worth listening to!
