Gremlins is 100% one of my favorites and we watch it every Christmas. As 80s movies go, It’s lighter on the problematic bullshit. But I just tell m “it’s just the 80s, no one cared”
Ghostbusters has more problems, still awesome.
Tony’s accessment of The Goonies is spot on
Beetlejuice, Lost Boys, poltergeist, Indiana Jones, Bill and Ted… all so good if you just brace for the 80s didn’t care.
And I don’t think it’s just nostalgia, unless I just have nostalgia for the decade,
As sequels go…. Beetlejuice Beetlejuice was really enjoyable and a touch cartoon silly.
And Gremlins 2 is something everyone should see once. And just once. It’s a wild deconstructive spoof, comedy, show mess.
Hard to say. Some of those I still love, some of those I remember fondly, some of those I hate now… and I can’t tell you the pattern. Honestly, I think maybe just my tastes have changed. Movies I genuinely enjoyed for some reason when I was younger, and now genuinely dislike.
I dunno. I’ve been working on just accepting what my crazy brain does. 😉
