Episode 206 : Miley Cyrus’s Tambourine Player

Lots to discuss tonight. A lot of Valentine’s stuff, a lot of Saturday Night Live. And some throwback to the last episode, discussing deep existential fears. But mostly just a funny good time. Enjoy!

QUESTIONS:

What’s a nice holiday memory you have (any holiday)? –Anonymous

Tony said what I was thinking in relation to Will’s existential fear 🙂 Very appropriate for Valentine’s Day.

  2. jas says:

    Oops that was my question.

  3. jas says:

I was reminded of a Halloween story 🙂 My family was travelling around the country until I was 5. So the first house we lived in (had lived in a trailer before) was in a neighborhood that was all retired folks except for my parents, my brother and me. They weren’t prepared for Halloween ’cause kids didn’t come around usually. So when my Dad took us around they didn’t have candy–instead we got invited in for cookies and milk, and hot chocolate, and cake….

  4. William says:

    Jan Hooks passed away October 9, 2014. I can’t believe I didn’t hear about that. 🙁

  5. William says:

    HAHAHAHAHA!

    I am such an idiot…

I meant to say… the Christmas pickle tradition might go back to the mid-19th century… not the mid 1900’s.

Which… I just looked it up on Wiki and they seem to think it goes back to the late 19th century. So there you go.

  6. William says:

Wow… I lived in Berrien Springs, MI for a summer and I never knew that stuff about Berrien Springs and pickles.

(I think I talked about Berrien Springs on the podcast once… the place where I had to work for my landlord in order to pay rent…)

  7. Beth says:

We search for the Christmas pickle, too. We didn’t start doing it until I was in high school. My aunt claims they did it growing up (and implied that my generation – the “grandkids” have searched for the pickle annually at grandma’s house. I don’t recall any pickle finding there until about junior high). At any rate, in years when there’s a good prize (Euros for our Dec 26 trip to Europe, Settlers of Catan) my brother wins. When the prize is something that turns out to be lame (a board game about Christmas carol trivia – that references only about 5 songs), I’m the winner. Making the prize be pickles themselves is kind of an awesome idea. It may not be a great prize, but at least you know what you’re in for!

  8. Mark says:

Flailing your arms in the air, like you just don’t care?

Denice the Menace would have eaten William alive, possibly sharing bits with Marmaduke. While Calvin & Hobbes would have been confused by William and probably ditched him with Susie.

William’s beliefs: What Tony said, at least upto the point where he talks about coming to his seminare and making me thinking of a Mary Kay salesperson.

Witcher: I’ve started the first one but not feeling impressed so far. I do plan to finish it at some point and move onto the second at some point.

Find the Pickle: Yup, heard of it. When Michelle and I first moved into an apartment together; my folks bought us a pickle ornament for this. Not sure why as we never celebrated this tradition when I was growing up.
