This week’s episode is presented in glorious 3D!
We discuss the holidays, the Amish, and (of course) the apocalypse.
We don’t have any links this time. But… behold… the awesome…..
Thanks, Kiya Bee!

Since some people like recipes to be written out (easier printing/storing for later use); I’ve done my best to transcribe Tony’s instructions for the Black Bean Stew.
Black Bean Stew
Take 1 medium-sized onion, sauté it in a big cooking pan. Once it’s gotten sautéed and kind of clear and stuff (but not brown), put in approximately 1/3 cup of what is called Israeli couscous, aka toast couscous. It’s like normal couscous, a little bit bigger, you can usually get it in your local Whole Foods knock-off or the hippie isle in your store. Put that in the bottom, while you still got the heat going, and just stir it around (you want to brown it a little bit). Do that until it’s all a little bit toasted then you dump in a can of black beans that have been drained (‘cuz the Producer hates the bean juice), a can of crushed tomatoes, a can of we used chicken broth but if you’re freaky like William you use vegetable broth and then you take a can of what’s called chipolte in adobo sauce. And you buy that and you use a little bit, 1 or 2 chillies; what the Producer did is blended the whole can and now it’s in a Tupperware in our fridge and so we just take it out and use a teaspoon, two teaspoons. You put it all in there, bring it to a boil, cook it for 5 minutes so that the couscous can get soft. You’re done. Eat it.
Whoops, work interrupted and I didn’t initially listen long enough to hear the Producer’s comment that you’re supposed to serve this with sour cream and green onions.
YhoTou said, “Freaky like William.”
Also, I didn’t catch it when he said it, but it’s supposed to be stewed tomatoes, not crushed tomatoes.
Really? Oops! I think the last batch I made used crushed. 🙂
Sorry, honey!
This year I will spend at home re-instaling Adobe package since it stopped working or probably with my PMS. PMS being my gaming group check them out here.
That’s some nice artwork for your group. Did you draw it yourself?
Im just website builder, artwork was done by one of my players 🙂
This is just a test message 🙂
William: Not sure what cold meds you use, Advil Cold & Sinus (available at your local pharmacy counter) works wonders on all my sinus troubles. It’s a ibuprofen/pseudoephedrine mix and is my goto drug for any cold/flu symptoms (which for me almost always seem to include sinus hell).
Buying presents online isn’t cheating. It’s a highly intelligent move, as:
* Helps to prevent overexposure to Christmas music by not forcing you to listen to said music. That being said, if you’re looking for …. non-traditional Christmas music, I highly recommend Jonathan Coulton’s Chiron Beta Prime.
* Many things can be purchased cheaper online (allowing you to buy more presents or whatnot)
* Helps you avoid adding serial killer to your record by not forcing you to interact with a bunch of frazzled parents, their screaming children in overcrowded retail establishments
I used to like snow. These days I tend to find it too much of a hassle. It’s still pretty to look at through a window, but shoveling it (actually fighting the snow blower into starting and stay running as I push it around) ain’t fun. And then there’s the ice that always comes with snow that makes driving around town so very …. interesting. I guess what I’m saying/thinking/bitching/whining/whatever is if the snow would only fall on the grassy areas (leaving my car, the roads and the sidewalks clear) I would love snow again.
William: Avatar, The Last Airbender is totally worth rewatching the entire series if you really do need to restart. Also, don’t bother with the live-action movie as that was simply poo.
Avatar (like Captain EO) is completely about the technology and the visuals, you don’t watch it for the story.
Disney California Adventure in Anaheim has the Muppets in 3D thing. One of the things I like the most about it is that it doesn’t just rely on 3D. There’s actual stuff physically going on in the theater as well. Like there’s animitronic Waldorf and Standler in their balcony right there in the theater. Awesome.
Coraline was great in 3D, it does enhance the movie, but you can see it in 2D and it’s still a good story and visually stunning.
Rumspringa – I’ve known about this word since I was quite young because there was an episode of Mr. Belvedere where the older brother starts dating this gal and she turns out to be Amish and on her Rumspringa… And he doesn’t find this out until she’s READY TO GO BACK. So she shows up to say goodbye in full regalia. “Yeah, it was nice dating you and all, but I’d rather go back to the place where they’ll choose my husband for me or something and I’ll be cold all the time.”
Dear William.
Everybody loves Sandman, it’s got a surprisingly universal appeal. That’s why you start new people to comics with it.
Books of Magic is also awesome.
Somebody tried to start me on comics with the Indivisibles… I read one issue and never went back to it. Preacher, same thing.
Some people say Cerberus the Aardvark … And it’s… Well, just don’t. It’s compelling but… yeah.
I would suggest starting with Astro City. Which is like a crash course in Super Hero comic book tropes, issues and general culture.
Astro City isn’t just a crash course that is. But it can serve as such. It’s an amazingly compelling world full of amazingly compelling characters. The relationship between The Samaritan and Winged Victory, for instance, that’s a series of really interesting conversations.
Umm, not everybody loves Sandman. Most people love it, but some of us just read it and shake our heads at all the hype it gets.
Cerberus the Aardvark is awesome. Well… some of it is awesome, but none of it is a really good intro to comics.
Okay. Everybody I have met (because I’ve yet to meet Mark in person) loves Sandman. Including me, I’ve met me… I think.
I’ve probably said it before, but I totally love Avatar: The Last Airbender. Since it sounds like Tony is in the first half of season 3, I’m going to take a guess that the dark episode he’s referring to was “The Puppetmaster.” It originally aired as a Halloween episode in 2007 during its initial run on Nickelodeon, and we watched it with my then-5 year old son. I think it creeped us parents out more than it did our child. William, it’s definitely worth trying to watch again, all the way through. 🙂
The Bee family is probably spending New Year’s Eve with some close friends and their kids. We’ve gone back and forth, between spending it with friends or staying home. Now that our son is old enough to stay up until midnight without being a total butt, we’ve done both and found that the evening is most successful either with other kids to play with or lots of video games. Last year we stayed home, put out a bunch of snacks and played Wii all night, and it was pretty fun.
We saw Captain Eo at Disneyland last summer; it was re-released for its 25th anniversary, so we had to see it for nostalgia’s sake. While I think 3D is a gimmick to make more money at the box office (aside from Avatar, that was awesome in 3D), it’s funny to watch my son reach out to touch the objects.
P.S. You’re welcome for the Ryan Gosling meme, I’m glad you like it! 🙂
You’re right on what episode it was, Kiya. But no more talk of it… we don’t want to spoil it for anyone. 🙂
