We get another peek into William’s mysterious past this week. And discuss Solo, because Tony finally saw it. And Tony lives vicariously through William as he watches Game of Thrones. Oh, and gender roles. Enjoy!
QUESTIONS:
In the Mass Effect games, do you play as Femshep or Broshep. –Mark McKibben

Bad news I’m afraid, there appears to be some sort of issue with the episode. It’s full of sound artifacts and words being clipped, it almost sounds like it’s trying to play at a slightly above normal speed. Also it may just be me but it’s a little quiet, you’re both balanced but I had to turn the volume right up.
Well, crap.
I guess this is a teachable moment for listeners. We really don’t know what we’re doing.
Ok this is weird. I’ve solved the issue, sort of. One of the features of my podcast app is ‘trim silence’ which is designed to reduce the length of long breaks of silence in podcasts as people tend to pause longer when they’re recording than they would naturally.
I’ve always had this feature enabled but it is being hyper-aggressive on this episode, to the point that it is cutting out the smallest of gaps between words and making it sound like the episode is playing at a >1x speed. But, for some reason, it’s not affecting the intro so my guess is that a setting has changed during the recording of the episode.
I stand by the volume comment though, you’re a lot quieter than the intro so I’m having to turn the actual episode up quite high.
Yeah, I was tired of trying to get William louder, so I went quieter. I didn’t think about it relative to the intro, though.
I’ll try and carefully up the volume on both our mica, equally, next time.
Volume: Yup, you were both really quiet in this episode. Compared to your intro/out
Pilothouse live: I would’ve enjoyed seeing/hearing that.
Solo: What Tony said.
Prequels, what prequels? If you mean those films were Lucas masturbated all over the screen; I refuse to acknowledge those as part of the Star Wars Universe.
Bad King Arthur Movie: Was this last/bad one better or worse than First Knight?
Game of Thrones: I disliked the books. I found the first season more interesting but not compelling enough to keep continue watching it. I think I found the first season on blu-ray for cheap and have it laying around, so I might go back to it at some point. But it’s really far down on the list.
Lucifer: Don’t tell me that. I’ve been watching it and enjoying it. 🙁
Mass Effect: I used “BroShep” in my question as it seems weird to me that people feel the need to clarify that they prefer playing as the female Shepard by calling her FemShep, but nobody seems to do the equivalent with the male Shepard. I figured if we’re going to call one FemShep; then we should have a similar shorthand for the male Shepard and MaleShep felt forced. *shrug* In any case, I’ve played the entire series as FemShep/FemRyder. I’ve also tried going back to try playing as BroShep/BroRyder, but it always feels wrong somehow and I never make it very far.
Agree, volume for both of you was bad. I followed Mark’s lead and increased the volume, but then got blasted out by the end credits.
