This week, we discuss smug cats, develop a superhero origin story for William, and say a lot that means surprisingly little on the topics of both Moon Knight and politics. Enjoy!

As Tony predicted, it is super funny, because I’m guessing it is a typo for IS is a typo for US (which you kind of answered anyway).
One thing I think people don’t consider in the current free speech debate: “cancelling” is not an example of an infringement of free speech right–it’s an example of an exercise of free speech rights (if what we mean by “cancelling” is saying that people shouldn’t buy that person’s product, or listen to their comedy routine, or whatever). When companies pay attention to that and no longer carry a product, or fire an actor, that, unfortunately, is our current socio-economic system in action. In terms of any kind of regulation, I don’t think anything can be done about it, except, again, countering speech one doesn’t like with more speech.
There is a recent example of legislation which is, I think, an example of a violation of free speech, and that is Florida’s HB 1557 (the “Don’t Say Gay” bill).
At the beginning, I thought Tony said “International Horse”! 😀
Moon Knight – I agree Oscar Isaac doing the mild-mannered Brit is a highlight. It is very uneven. I tended to like it when it is was at its most weird, and not like it when it was doing standard superhero plot.
Yeah, I’m two more episodes in, and I’m enjoying it quite a bit more now. Not enough to recommend that Trish come back to it, but still.
I typed a typo while typing about a typo!
I mean that IS is a typo for US. 🙂
Ah, listening to Jas Heads — you figured it out!!
Very true. I’m actually trying to use that idea in my personal life. Lots of stuff out there I don’t like these days, and my freedom as a citizen is to not consume it and not support it. I don’t have to try and convince others, or try and get things “banned” or whatever. Everyone gets to decide for themselves, including me.
Had one other thought about information. As William was saying, in the past information was not largely available. I wonder if the effect of that kind of top down control of information is being achieved in some ways by the fact that we have so much information available today. It makes people feel powerless. We don’t have good narratives for grasping it or understanding it, and in fact some of the narratives feed into a false sense of what’s going on.
As Jas said IS was indeed a typo and it should have been US!
We figured it out!
Like, 8 hours later. *blush*
