Part 2 of 2. This week we talk a little too long about Midnight Mass, but then we’re into the emails! Beth gets a lot of action, but Azuretalon sneaks in with one of those sleeper questions where you think it’s gonna suck but then it doesn’t. Sort of. Enjoy!

    Okay, buckle up…
    My fruit dudes?
    Kamen Rider Gaim.
It’s basically a Sengoku era samurai drama but the houses/clans are inner-city dance crews in the near future.
The kids pass time playing pokemon by summoning holograms of monsters using padlocks with plants on them (LockSeeds).
Our heroes and villains get a belt that locks the lock seeds in and slices them open with a build-in fruit knife (later they upgrade to juicers) to unlock a zipper to a forest in another forest, The Helheim Forest (maybe the garden on Eden?), and the fruit falls on the riders head, unfolding into armor and summoning weapons to fight the monsters from this other world and each other and the company that made the belts… and I think the main character becomes God or Adam or something?

I mean, I was quite convinced you were insane, reading this.

Then I went to the link, and… it’s real. And… I have a lot of conflicted emotions about this now. I might hate you, and Japan. But I also might watch this show?

I don’t know. I think I need to pray on this.

My husband is a pretty funny guy, however, since I’m very inactive on twitter, I can’t speak well to if he’s worth following or not. I get the impression he’s not very prolific, so it probably wouldn’t be much of a commitment if you did follow him.

If you’d like us to post follow-ups on the specific episode, you’ll have to go back to posting the question, and may need to expand the show notes if there’s a hope of finding the previous episode.

Sickles in karate are referred to as kamas.

All the weapons in karate are based on farm implements–like nunchucks are rice threshers. This is because karate was started during the era in which only Samurai class could carry actual weapons.

I think a group of collective nouns should be called a metaferocity (or a metaphorocity).

Oh yeah, there is Chaucer’s poem “A Parliament of Fowls” in which three male eagles make their case to Nature as to who should win a female eagle. Nature lets the female eagle decide, and her decision is to wait another year. Consent, baby!

C.S. Lewis alluded to the poem by having a parliament of owls in “The Silver Chair.” (Also the book with my favorite Lewis character, Puddleglum, the marshwiggle.) I think that is the collective name for owls.
