I saw Captain Marvel today and really enjoyed it. With regards to the supposed wooden acting I think it was deliberate, Jude Law’s character was constantly berating her about controlling her emotions so she’d sort of learned to do that unconscious holding back and then the end of the movie was a big f you to it.

Plot wise it was a bit predictable but then again it was an origin story. I’m surprised how the skrull angle was handled just because it sort of shuts down using a particular story from the comics. I also wish they’d explain why most kree are blue but some aren’t.

Check Wikipedia sometime. The history of the Kree and the Skrull is insane. Technically, while the Skrull are only the horrible beings they are because of the Kree.

      And then there’s the Shiar…

Tony, I believe you’re right that after the 25th amendment went into effect, an individual is now limited to 10 years as president-less than half of your predecessor’s term, and you can run for two in your own right.

To be VP, you need to be eligible to be president. I don’t think Obama is eligible to be VP now, because he would be ineligible to be president, because he has already served two of his own terms as president. He *might* be eligible if a replacement VP were being named past half way through a given president’s term; but I’m confident you couldn’t have Obama on the initial ticket with the promise that he’d be replaced as VP after 2 years.

I believe the 25th amendment was ratified during Truman’s administration, but Truman was not bound by the 25th amendment (I think it is specified in the amendment that it does not apply to the president in office when the amendment is ratified). Truman served about 3 years and 9 months of FDRs 4th term, and felt that was enough of a first term for himself so he decided not to run for a second (third) term in his own right, and therefore was only president for 7 years and 9 months.
The 25th amendment also established the presidential order of succession, and the vehicle for which to name a replacement VP in the event the one elected on the ticket is no longer in office. Gerald Ford owes his entire presidency to this amendment as he was not elected to either president or VP.

Teddy Roosevelt became president when McKinley was assassinated, I think in summer 1901. TR served most of that term, then was elected to his own term in 1904, and on election night, declared that he would not run again in 1908 (making him a bit of a lame duck for the entire term). TR handpicked Taft as a successor, and got him elected in 1908, but Taft turned to be a disappointment to TR, which encouraged TR to run again in 1912. If I recall correctly, this split the republican votes between TR and Taft allowing for a Wilson victory (TR technically split off into his own party officially known as “Progressives” but commonly known as “Bull Moose”). I’m not really sure why TR didn’t run in 1916, possibly recovering from nearly dying on a trip to the Amazon between the 1912 election and 1916? He was considering running in 1920, but died in 1919 before getting the chance.
