It gets heavy at the beginning here, people. Serious, dark talk about… super powers. Then TV. Then… um.. poop, a little, I think? And then, definitely, bacon. Enjoy!

Wow… we say “intriguing” a lot in this episode…
Hm…
Tony said he worried that I was about to say things (or that I was saying things) that I’d regret saying later… I don’t know if I’d go so far as to use the term “regret”, but… I did take things a little farther than I’m usually comfortable with. And if I could go back, I’d probably have said things just a bit differently. (So, first off, thanks Tony for steering me away from a true disaster!) Although there’s really only one thing I said that, upon hearing it when I listened to the podcast, I thought, “Ah, crap, did I really say that OUT LOUD??!!” (And that thing that I said about someone else is something I often say about myself as, really, a kind of compliment but I doubt that sense of the comment came through in the context.)
My apologies, folks. The combination of being excited about receiving what I thought was a critical and therapeutic insight, having my first opportunity to discuss that insight with my dear friend (and dear friends listening), and the stress lately of unpacking quite a bit of emotional baggage that’s accumulated over the past several months… well, it all conspired to get the better of me. Which isn’t an excuse, it’s just what happened.
Given that I’m still unpacking A LOT of emotional boxes, I can’t promise it won’t happen again. But I will do my best to prevent such things in future.
In the meantime, I hope it remains understood that whenever I share “emotional stuff” that touches upon events in the lives of others, it’s not my intention to cast a spotlight upon those others. In fact, whenever that happens, I’m just doing a poor job of expressing myself and I should probably just shut up until I can say what I need to say while squarely leaving others out of it. Because what I’m really trying to talk about is my own experience, and that alone, regardless of how it may or may not reflect upon anyone else. It’s not my place to speak about or on behalf of anyone else, and nothing I carelessly let slip about anyone else should be taken as anything other than my subjective perception and emotional response to events related to that person; it’s not a commentary about the person her-or-himself, factual or otherwise.
So… yeah, again… my apologies. I shall endeavor to do better.
Hey, I agree with Tony that this is a very familiar experience, especially for parents, even if luckily most don’t have to deal with it at a life and death intensity (although, even as I typed “most” I realized–I’m not so sure about that). Anyway, having been there, I’m sure we can empathize with that need to unpack the baggage, and think, “ah yes, the subjectivity is strong with this one…” (at this moment anyway :))
🙂
I thought the Flash pilot was one of the best I’ve seen. Gotham seems dreadful to me, though I’ve continued to watch in some vain hope that it will get better.
My favorite comic series ever is “Love and Rockets” which is put out by Fantagraphics. I think I’ve mentioned this webcomic before but I really love “Unsounded” by Ashley Cope.
I recently picked up the new Thor and The Edge of the Spiderverse, Gwen Stacy–Thor was very good and Gwen Stacy was just awesome. Also bought Gotham Academy but haven’t had time to read it yet.
Oh! I forgot to mention that Jas and I posted another episode of Grapevine:

Hmm, now having seen the Arrow premiere, I will say it has this problem:
We haz THEMES! Sometimes plot must be sacrificed to the THEMES! Sometimes characters must be sacrificed to the THEMES!
😀
Oh, and I was completely wrong about what I’d previously said in regard to when episode 200 will be. I counted it out again and recalled that it will air on Jan. 8.
1) William, thank you for sharing. I hope you did find it therapeutic rather than oversharing.
2) Tony – for mole day in high school, we got to bring in little sewn mole animals for extra credit. As I wanted lots of credit, I made about 8 of them, lets see what I can remember: MOLE Booth (yellow with a basket on it’s stomach), NeMOLEian (the French emperor), MOLEr Bear, GuacaMOLE… that’s all I can remember right now.
3) the Least Common Denominator is an awesome math team name, ours was just M*A*T*H that looked like the MASH logo. Your name is better.
