Episode 362 : Stay the Course

Ok, I know we’ve been a bit chaotic lately, but I really think we’re back on track now. It’s Tony and William. It’s basically a normal episode. Things should move smoothly again from here. Hopefully. Maybe. If we’re lucky. Enjoy!

Yeah so I totally misread the episode numbers when commenting about the classic episode. My bad.

Only Podcast that is actually a vlog: Well, if you’d just take the lens cap off; that problem would be fixed.

William’s Birthday: Congratulations on having the gumption to survive yet another solar revolution!

Popeye’s: Cedar Rapids has had Popeyes for a while now. Are you guys only just now getting them? Also, why? I’ve tried it and it was… not good.

Turning 50: Nope, I’ve always hoped/assumed that the birthdays I’ve not yet had will be better than the ones that I’ve already experienced.

Moana: It was fine, but didn’t really stand out among Disney films for me.

Alan Tudyk: By hiring him to do the role, it let’s them bring in his fans and/or they might just have him under contract to do voices for some X number of films.

Black Panther: We’ve already seen it and it’s outstanding.

Electric Dreams: Meh, I watched that first episode and it was really lukewarm.

Good grief William, you can’t remember your friend’s birthdays, but you can pull Susan B. Anthony’s birthday out of thin air?

William – my guess is that color guard was a feed to become drum major at your school is because they needed as many instrumentalists as possible to stay instrumentalists, not because people in color guard had some sort of skill set that make them uniquely qualified to be drum major.

At Iowa, the drum major position is primarily responsible for leading the band and exhibiting showmanship in mace twirling (a bigger baton). They typically only conduct a few songs here and there, including when the band sings Alma Mater – which they do at the end of every event (but sometimes you have to wait a while to hear it, there can be a lot of in-stadium commercials). Instead, the lion’s share of the conducting, both on the field and on the sidelines is performed by the grad staff. Grad staff are a group of 5-7 students working on their doctorate in music education. They’re the people the section leaders report to. Anyway, if you have more Hawkeye Marching Band questions, let me know.

Yes, my new last name is some version of fake Italian, it’s now “Blanco.” Our family pronounces it with the “Blan” part sounding like “blanket” not “blonde.”

    • William says:

Susan B. Anthony’s birthday is prominently noted on my wife’s calendar at home. I’d just happened to look at it before leaving to do the podcast.

      🙂

Certainly, my friends’ birthdays could be thus displayed if I wrote them down in the calendar… which I could do if I could remember them…

You make a good point re: color guard becoming drum majors.

Beth Blanco sounds like a secret agent name.
