Episode 285 : The Crop Report

We talk a lot about produce this week. Also, Wonder Woman may be William’s new Batman. The tragedy strikes, but the day is saved by the Producer. Then we learn why you shouldn’t be friends with us. Enjoy!

QUESTIONS:

If you were going to become a close friend with me, please share what would be important for me to know. –Cawfee

I’d make a slight amendment to what Will said about not being very good at commiserating. If commiserating means being very sympathetic or empathetic to a person then I would say that Will is actually very good at commiserating. What he generally doesn’t do is take sides. When I told him recently about some issues I was having with my drumming group, I think he said something about how tough that was for me as they are very important to me. He didn’t say anything about the people I was having issues with. On the whole, (and in this particular instance), I find that helpful. It got me back to thinking about the situation in a positive way (remembering how those people are important to me) without continuing thinking about my complaints about them.

I really encourage people to see “Kubo”–both because it’s such a good movie, and because people don’t seem to know about it so it isn’t getting great box office. There were very few people in the theatre when I saw it.

Was watching “Steven Universe” with my son yesterday and he said, one good thing about “Kubo” and “Steven Universe” is that they are giving kids a vocabulary to talk about difficult things. And really, that’s something there doesn’t seem to be enough of in our culture.

The Only Podcast Bit: Well, that was a new one even though it felt like it might have been a quote.

Oregon Sweet Corn?!?!?!? Honestly, what else do we have here in Iowa? Can’t coasters let us have this? :p

Kuba and the Two Strings: While I agree the animation is outstanding; it’s not the reason the movie is so good. The story is the reason it’s so good (AFAIK entirely made-up, not a traditional folk tale) and the reason the story is so good is they didn’t take the easy way out to give all the heros a happy ending. They let the story be dark which is a nice change of pace from Disney kid movies.

Is losing TMTH anything like losing your mind? Side note: I found the cat meowing was just as entertaining as the two of you… but that might be the cold medicine/lack of sleep talking.

Listening not solving: Yup, I all too frequently try to figure out solutions to the problems my wife talks to me about rather than just listening.
