Episode 242 : Still Spooky After All These Years

It’s our Halloween episode! Which doesn’t really mean anything, but there you go. Mostly, we talk about roleplaying games, because we got to play roleplaying games together this weekend! Then some Welshman makes us discuss video games for a few minutes. Enjoy!

QUESTIONS:

Given the XB1 if backwards compatible with the 360, will you buy one and embrace both worlds now? Cheers, –Stu

Halloween: We haven’t participated in Halloween at home for a few years now. The last couple of times we tried it; we kept getting “kids”, really too old to be trick or treating, without costumes and some of whom were rather rude about asking for candy.

Ectoplasmic servants: I’ve always though there was something gooey about you….

Welcoming Community: With open arms and definitely no knives. 😉

The more I’ve heard about Dav of Id’s gaming con, the more I wish I’d been able to make it. *sigh* Maybe next year?

FMLA War Machine: “Family and Medical Leave Act War Machine”? What kind of game were you playing?

“Serenity-like” game: Was this the game I had an opportunity to play with you some time back?

XB1: Nope. The only console that has exclusives I’m interested in is Nintendo.

Mass Effect: Best series of video games ever. Dragon Age, not so much. I’d put Elder Scrolls much higher. Especially on the PC, where I can load all kinds of mods and whatnot to customize the game to my liking.

Fallout4: I didn’t have any plans to get the game this quickly. I had a lot of fun with FO:NV but I played it years after it was released but still ran across all sorts of game breaking bugs. So out of principle, I wasn’t going to get it right away. Then a friend bought me a copy; just because my friends are cool. I’m nearly 200 hours into the game at this point and haven’t run across anything game breaking so far. Though there have been some visual glitches here and there.

Mass Effect: Andromeda – Current release date is expected to be in Q4, 2016.

Mass Effect (again): I came to the series late, so all 3 games were out when I played them. This includes all the DLC, though I only ever played the free DLC. My original play-through of ME1, I loved it. A couple months back, I tried replaying it and found it horrible. I just couldn’t take plodding through it when I already knew the outcome. ME2 was also great fun, though I preferred the guns/ammo system from ME1. ME3 was outstandingly good and by the time I played, it had the fancy alternate endings built-in; hearing you two talk about the original I’m curious how that looked. Maybe one of you could find a youtube video showing it?

My wife’s at 317 hours and change on PS4. We’ve run into more than a few glitches, but it’s still been fun.

And she mostly agrees with your and Tony’s assessment of Mass Effect, though on any given day another game might share its top spot. Nothing ever seems to unseat it, though.

I’ve heard that a remastered version of the original Knights of the Old Republic is coming out for console next year. She played it on the PC and loved it, but I think she’s forgotten how much. If she plays it again on console, I have a feeling it’ll take the prize. But we’ll have to see.

Oh, and yes… the Serenity-like game I was referring to was the one you and Michelle joined us in. It was awesome. 🙂
