Episode 99 : Super Famous!

Yes, we’re huge now. We’re major celebrities. Like rock stars. Or mechanics. Or Presidents.  So we spend the episode discussing the intricacies of an outdated RPG, and the merits of feeding raw milk cheese to cats. You know, like famous people.

QUESTIONS:

In city there are factions Vampires, Changlings, Mages, and Vampire Hunters (Church). Which city structures would each infiltrate as “day jobs.” Elaborate. — Stevan D. Grbik

Dear Hatlets, Ice cream or gelato? — Sir Guido

LINKS: In passing, we mention Sir Guido’s YouTube channel, which can be found here.

UPDATE: Apparently, the episode is quite static-y, especially at the end. We apologize. There seems to be something going on with the mic. Will attempt to fix it before next time.

  1. Craig says:

Not sure what you did differently this week but there’s quite a bit of background noise that isn’t normally there.

    • Craig says:

And by background noise I should probably say static as opposed to sounds from the room.

      • themagicaltalkinghat says:

Damn! I hope something’s not wrong with the mic. Was it still intelligible?

        • The Producer says:

It is (intelligible) for me, just annoying. We probably should get some canned air and blow out the mic and the port and then do some tests before next week.

          • William says:

Actually, near the end, it’s pretty-much impossible to listent to. And by “near the end”, I’m talking about the last three minutes or so.

          • The Producer says:

For some reason I can’t respond to William?

Yeah, you’re right though – I had just kind of hopped around and checked it and didn’t notice that at the end. It does have the odd effect of rendering you louder than Tony, which is kind of an interesting change of pace.

I’ll try to get after him Sunday after my family leaves to get it sorted out for next week.

          • Craig says:

Also probably a good idea to check the episode 100 recording just in case that has also been affected.

        • The Producer says:

Craig, I mentioned that to Tony last week. He said that he could see something was up as they were recording 99, and that 100 looked normal. So hopefully we’re safe. We haven’t actually listened to it yet to be sure – were going to do it this weekend, but my folks were here and we were distracted.

  2. Bloodsparrow says:

There is a lot of background static in this episode, but when I wear headphones the background static is louder in one ear than in the other.

    • Bloodsparrow says:

I want to know who left you a misterious message?

It was Obama wasn’t it? I think it was Obama.

    • Bloodsparrow says:

I don’t think William looks like John Corbit. He looks a lot like my friend Brett (also known as Shad0 or “Shad Zero” as some people pronounce it), he does NOT look my friend Brett who I used to Play D&D with and generally is my partner in crime when I do any sort of online gaming.

    • Bloodsparrow says:

      Re: voice over stuff

I can do more samples with me trying other voices. I can do a pretty good Bernadette Peters.

    • Bloodsparrow says:

      Thinking good thoughts for Ezzy!

My cat, Wyll, had some tummy issues recently. I didn’t give him food and gave him a giant bowl of water for a day. (This made him very upset with me.) And it turned out the food I feed him had either changed formula or I just got a bad bag. So I had to go back to feeding him the more expensive corn-free food I used to give him before I found this other brand and now he’s doing much better.

      • William says:

Actually, Bloodsparrow, you might have named the problem right here. Tony or Trish, I hope you’re reading (or I hope to remember to mention this later)…

I’ve heard that some cats react poorly to any cat food that contains corn or soy. Some people blame the fact that all of the corn and soy used in cat food is GMO. Some cat owners have claimed that as soon as they took their cat off of food with corn or soy — or switched to a cat food labeled as “non-GMO” — their cat’s health immediately improved.

        • The Producer says:

The most recent food we got is “grain-free” which includes corn – would have to check on the soy to be sure. But in general it’s intended to be free of most common allergens/sensitivities. That’s pretty much why we got it.

Yep, just confirmed – no soy either. And she definitely does better on this stuff. Just didn’t seem to quite get her all the way there. She’s a sensitive soul. And a bitch. It’s complicated.

The food, in case anyone’s curious, is Science Diet Ideal Balance.

    • Bloodsparrow says:

In Old World of Darkness, my understanding was that Changelings were beings of a mixed breed between humans and fairy. (Either as a direct descendent or from old bloodlines coming back together.) And so they’re not only fighting the pull of Banality but they’re also (often anyway) trying to fight the pull of the Fairy so they can strike a balance and continue to exist as they are rather than being lost to one side or the other.

That MIGHT be a misconception on my part. I played more Vampire and Werewolf, (and WoD: Gipsies) than any of the other. Though I often dabbled into other creatures playing NPCs for various one shot games at cons and for the regular games of my friends I wasn’t a regular part of. (Wraith, Mage, Changeling)

    • Bloodsparrow says:

      THAC Naught! Super love it!

Also wars raged over how to pronounce “Drow”.

    • Bloodsparrow says:

Turkish Delight! Love love LOVE that stuff.

    • Bloodsparrow says:

      Cheese fire? … Wh…. Wha….

      Wow.

    • Bloodsparrow says:

Abrams and his f’ing red balls.

Do not taunt happy fun ball.

    • Bloodsparrow says:

Okay near the end the static is REALLY LOUD.

  3. SirGuido says:

My PortlyPaladin YouTube is at http://www.youtube.com/user/theportlypaladin. The one Tony linked is my gaming channel. The Portly Paladin is about my triumphs, and lately my trials… on my road of weight loss. I am probably equally famous though for being on Happy Jacks RPG Podcast, being on the Know Direction Podcast, writing for an L5R fan magazine, and for being mentioned on multiple occasions on the now canceled Web Soup.

I also experienced the static, it gave me a sad.

I am interested in reading the script if William is agreeable. sirguido1 at gmail dot com. I am already working on voices and such for a few new intro/outro ideas, adding in a few more voices to my practice sessions and sending them off to William would not be difficult.

Vampires, Changelings, Mages oh my! Sorry I have next to no experience with White Wolf. I played Werewolf like twice. And he didn’t ask about Werewolves.

I have not tried Turkish Delight, Afternoon Delight however…

Gelato is incredibly smooth and creamy and fresher tasting, which I find weird. I’m kinda like William though, both are good. I also like cheese. Cheese has been the BIGGEST thing I miss since changing the way I eat. I used to eat all kinds of cheese at all different meals. Mozzarella, Cream, Cheddar, American, Farmer’s, Cottage, Ricotta, Provolone, Colby, Muenster, Edam, Camembert, etc. I now have maybe 2 ounces of cheese a week. Boo.

    • themagicaltalkinghat says:

What heartless eating program are you on??? Cheese is actually something I can pretty much eat as much as I want, now! Hardly any carbs in most cheese. Mmmmm…. cheese…..

      • SirGuido says:

I’m on Weight Watchers, and they don’t forbid cheese its just a decent number of points which I would almost rather spend elsewhere.

  4. Craig says:

I enjoyed Dollhouse and don’t think it was as bad as you’re making out. It wasn’t Joss’ best thing but is certainly better than a lot of the crap that is on TV.

The Star Trek reboot – It was an enjoyable summer blockbuster action movie. Unfortunately that in itself makes it an utterly terrible Star Trek movie.

  5. Mark says:

Zooming in application: Actually William that made perfect sense.

Sound: The playback speed sounds fine, though as others have mentioned, there is a lot of annoying static and it definitely got worse in the final 3-4 minutes.

    Special Guests: Woo!

Changeling: Keeping in mind that I’ve not read the rules in ages and when I did play this game, it was heavily modified by the people running it. Changelings didn’t have a special thing to feed upon (ala vampires & blood); the main thing they had to worry about was being hit with banality. If enough normal humans saw a Changeling doing something that was impossible by their standards; then the Changeling could get hit with banality which meant all kinds of bad mojo for them. However just being around normal humans without doing something impossible was fine; so the characters I played with tended to either have sufficient wealth that they didn’t need day jobs or they had freelance jobs (courier, photojournalist, etc). As for founding a cult and living in a commune, none of our characters ever tried that and it wouldn’t make a very good story if that’s all you did. For much the same reason, we didn’t focus much on our characters’ day jobs and if that game had been real; we’d all have been out of work fairly quickly.

Side note: I’ve not played Changeling in the last several years, so I wouldn’t say I’ve played it recently.

THAC0 = To Hit Armor Class 0 and properly pronounced tha-co, though thac-naught has a nice ring too it.

Turkish delight can be pleasant but I don’t think plates of the stuff would be worth selling out your family.

Ice cream vs gelatto: For every day consumption, I prefer ice cream however for special occassions gellato is very nice.

Norway Cheese Fire: It was six days and a tunnel that was closed by the cheese fire.

Star Trek (2009): I really enjoyed it but that was in spite of its flaws and I do look forward to the next one of these.
