Episode 88 : Saint Tonysburg

Today, we found a new country. One largely based on recreational drugs. And herbs. We also get deeply philosophical about our relationship with the listeners. There’s probably some other stuff, but we recorded two episodes tonight, so I’m not sure which was from which. Just listen, you’ll see.

QUESTIONS:

Dear TMTH, European or African swallow? — Mark McKibben

What question would you most like to ask the listeners? — Craig

Dear The Magical Talking Hat, Herbs: Fresh or dried? — Kiya B.

I am still listening, just don’t find myself in a position to comment very often. I will try though!

  2. Bloodsparrow says:

I think you mean “The Manturian Candidate”. (No context for you!)

  3. Craig says:

Regards Looper – I definitely think its a movie worth seeing, I enjoyed it though doubt it’ll be one that I go out and buy. I had one major issue with the plot but can’t say what it is given it would require a major spoiler.

Herbs – While I prefer fresh herbs most the time I just use dried ones as its much easier to keep a stock of them for occasional use.

Why do I listen – Initially I started listening because Tony posted up in the Happy Jacks forum and I’m always on the lookout for new podcasts. I keep listening for a few reasons, I enjoy the banter between the two of you, the podcast regularly makes me laugh (always a bonus given I tend to listen to it on my commute into work on Fridays) and its always interesting to see what comes out of the hat each week. What moves the podcast from one I enjoy to one of my favourites is the conversational nature of it, it definitely feels like I’ve just joined in with a conversation you’d be having even if you weren’t recording the podcast.

  4. Mark says:

Govt of Saint Tonysburg: Somehow I doubt that the supervillian know as Crainiac has no connection with this new government. Why he might even be controlling the entire government as his puppets!

Head executioner & Royal chef would likely be excellent with blades; so maybe having one person doing both jobs might lead to some efficiencies or skill bonuses. 🙂

Bear traps? That’s perfect, I’ve been looking for some to add to my collection…

    New glasses are fun.

I’m not feeling inspired to contribute to the pot/hemp conversation.

Looper was ok, not great but ok. Cloud Atlas looks like the story is far too weak to support the rather pretty visuals and the visuals don’t look good enough to get me to spend theater prices to see it (well, maybe a matinee at our local cheap seats). I’m totally looking forward to seeing Wreck-It Ralph. Any thoughts on Skyfall? The wife & I went to see it recently and I found it to be best Bond movie in years with lots of nice nods to the older films.

Firefly: I still have Tony to thank for really getting me into watching that show; so thanks!

Swallows: Hey, if you take as long as you do to get through questions; then you can’t complain when people send in duplicates. If you want to avoid duplicates; then you need to post all the questions on a single page so people can reference & avoid them. Also William did read a lot into my “question” that wasn’t necessarily there; but was totally in the movie. Meaning of Life can be fun, but isn’t nearly as good as Holy Grail. Life of Brian is better than Meaning of Life, no question; but better than Holy Grail…. no. Lastly for all the griping you did about this question, you sure devoted a lot of air time to it.

Total Octopus Domination: Actually, it’s the Japanese that are responsible for that; what with their love of takoyaki (fried balls of octopus).

I prefer to use fresh, locally grown ingredients whenever I can. The stuff you grow wasn’t a variety specifically engineered to look pretty & ship well that’s why your home-grown herbs taste better.

Why do I listen? Well, I still think of you guys as friends; but I’m horrible at scheduling any sort of face-to-face interaction. And since I live a bit north of you guys, I almost never see you anymore. So listening to the podcast lets me pretend I’m still an “active” friend.

  5. Kiya Bee says:

I initially started listening to the podcast out of morbid curiousity, because it had been so long since I’d seen or heard anything about Tony. After I got through a few episodes I realized that I truly enjoyed the podcast; even though I don’t know William personally, I appreciate the things he has to say and enjoy the counterbalance between him and Tony. The conversational style is appealing, the topics are interesting, and it’s not boring, whether funny or serious.
