  1. Bloodsparrow says:

I would not call Diaspora “hard science fiction”. I would say more “Space Opera”. A bit like Dune… I think.

    • Bloodsparrow says:

OMG I used to love Sledgehammer

Is it Garth Merengi’s Darkplace awesome?

    • Bloodsparrow says:

What was that show called again?

      • Bloodsparrow says:

The show with Eddie Izzard by the guy who did Sledgehammer Mr. “I want context.”

        • Bloodsparrow says:

PS – Yes, I know I can just play the podcast again. I’ve also already remembered that it was called “Bullet to the Face” or something like that. That’s not the point.

    • Bloodsparrow says:

It’s not bad that you didn’t care for Back To The Future 2, since it was just a big ad for part 3.

Part 3 was better than 2, but not as good as 1.

Sequels might as well be remakes, IMO.

      • Bloodsparrow says:

If you’ve ever been to Universal Studios there’s a Back to the Future ride and there are dinos in THAT.

        • Mark says:

I’ve been there to the one in Orlando and don’t remember them having a BttF ride. I do recall seeing the DeLorean & steam engine time machines. For my money, the best ride at that park was The Mummy ride.

          • Craig says:

There definitely used to be one at the Orlando park, not surprisingly the DeLorean and steam engine were right outside it. Really hope they’ve not gotten rid of it, was one of my favourite rides.

          • Bloodsparrow says:

I worked at UVS Hollywood, I’ve never been to the one in Orlando.

    • Bloodsparrow says:

I have to admit. When Indy 4 was announced I was resolved not to see it.

But then I went to the website and saw the logo and the music played and I almost cried.

I totally went to see it with my Dad… and it was… Well, you know.

      • Mark says:

I was totally excited to see a new Indy film…. at least until I actually saw a new Indy film. That’s when I released Indy films are similar to Star Trek film, in that only the even (or odd in Indy’s case) numbered films are any good.

    • Bloodsparrow says:

      Thank you William.

  2. Craig says:

Dresden game: How well do you think the system would work for a one shot adventure? I’d like to give it a try some time but don’t have a regular gaming group at present so a campaign isn’t really an option.

Alternate history stuff: Have you read any Harry Turtledove novels? He’s had a few interesting ones though some of them are also just weird.

I actually prefer Back to the Future Part 2 over the first one but that’s mostly because I like the way they intercross it with the first movie and play with some of the more interesting time travel tropes. All that said I really hope they don’t try and do a 4th movie, though I can’t decide if a 4th movie would be better or worse than a reboot.

There are no highlander sequels, there is only one. There should also have never been a 4th Indy movie, that was a terrible movie.

    • themagicaltalkinghat says:

      Craig,

drivethrurpg.com has free “intro” rules to the game, and three different (I think free) adventures already built. Evil Acts, Neutral Grounds, and… something else, that doesn’t fit the title theme, I think.

So those should work for a one-shot, pretty well.

  3. Mark says:

TMTH 76, Back to the Future 5 – Comparative Retiree Fashion!

Actually the A stands for Allen, just sayin’.

*sniff, sniff* I don’t smell the warm, banana nut bread but I really, really wanna.

I’m bored with listening to you talking about how you’ll talk about things until you’re bored.

Cocaine is a hell of a drug or cocaine is hell in a drug?

Especially as your players don’t listen; we’d like more details on the Dresden Files game. Yes, we would indeed.

BttF4: Good grief, please no don’t make another one of these. The BttF1 was fun, BttF2 wasn’t particularly good, BttF3 was better but not to the quality of BttF1. As for what would be a cool plot; if it did get made? Maybe going into the present to stop Hollywood from making any more of these films?

Also, I’ve gotten pretty damn sick of Hollywood making all these damn remakes. I really wish they’d come up with more new ideas.

More Star Wars movies? Of what madness do you speak? There are only 3 in that series: Star Wars, Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi. Also, Star Wars was not, I repeat NOT originally called “Episode 4”. That particular bit of nonsense was added later.

Tony: You’ve never seen Indy2? Wow, you lucky dog!

Highlander, heh. I originally saw Highlander 2 first, and I went into it blind without any idea of what it was about. Oddly enough, that meant I was able to enjoy Highlander 2 and the original just didn’t make a lot of sense to me when I saw it later (as nothing in it matched up with Highlander 2).

Tony: The power of TMTH compels you! The power of TMTH compels you!The power of TMTH compels you!

William: Well done on identifying the crux of the question! Muskmelon is actually the “parent” species to honeydew. So it does kind of drive me bonkers when Iowans call cantaloupe muskmelon.
