Episode 38 : Fatlazysmartassistan

We weren’t really on our game tonight.  Kind of lackluster.  We did invent a fantastic new sitcom idea, prepare for the apocalypse, and narrowly avoid some serious racism (probably).  But, really… nothing much… it was kinda boring.  But you could listen, if you want.

Also, Ink.  The movie is called Ink.  See it.

This is the song I was talking about, and it *is* disturbingly genius.  And catchy.

I’m going to be at the Nerdist show in Austin?

I totally get the “leftover turkey” turkey thing. Sometimes, instead of doing a whole turkey, we’ll just get a turkey breast to roast. And because you GOT to have turkey afterwards so we’ll get a second breast. Sometimes, we go somewhere else to have TG dinner (like going out or going to a friend’s house) and we won’t cook the turkey breast A DAY OR TWO LATER for faux leftovers.

The Call of Chthulhu silent movie b&w was made in… 2004, I want to say? It’s on instance streaming on Netflix and it’s really quite awesome. As far as Lovecraft goes, my favorites include Shadow Over Innsmouth, The Picture In the House, The Thing On The Doorstep, The Cats of Ulthar, Pickman’s Model and The Haunter In The Dark. I also highly recommend HP Podcraft, which is two guys talking about specific Lovecraft stories much in the way the two of you talk about questions spit out by The Hat, BUT they also have dramatic readings of excerpts from the story being discussed. The people they get to do the readings are all very talented and really do a great job with the material. (One of people who reads for them is the guy from True Grit that does the animal noises. He’s quite eloquent, which kind of makes a horrible sense that he would be good at making animal noises.) So you might want to think about reading the story and then listening to the corresponding episode. They’ve also put out some episodes of just readings of whole stories. One of which was Call of Cthulhu which they did in “3D”. That is the audio is split into three different mp3s that you’re supposed to set up on different devices set around the room and played at the same time to create surround sound on the cheap… ‘ish.

On the subject of Ryan Gosling reading Ryan Gosling memes, I give you Chuck Norris’ World of Warcraft Commercial. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=arKpdxjHamI

Tony is right. I’m not your friend.

Do NOT mix up crochet and knitting.

Make that “instant” streaming on Netflix… Not “instance”…

Not that you noticed my typo because you were still giggling from all the talk of breasts in the first paragraph…

  2. Mark says:

Haven’t you guys seen Capt. America? Of course there were Nazi nerds.

Not thinking I’m willing to part with that much cash to go see the Nerdist live, when I’ll just end up listening to the podcast later anyway.

Tony: You’re quite a bit behind on listening to the Nerdist. Whew, for a minute there I thought we were going to have to revoke Tony’s nerd status. After all, if he hadn’t watched Felicia Day’s Dragon Age: Redemption web series yet; there just wouldn’t be any point in calling him a nerd anymore. But it’s only her playing the DLC of Talios, well that’s ok then.

Since you’re having problems GMing your game; you might want to take a look at the free eBook over at GameMastering.Info. I wouldn’t say that I agree with all the ideas that it suggests, but it’s got a lot of stuff in it that sound like good ideas to me.

Remakes have a track record of success, original properties do not. So making a Muppet movie to refresh them for a new generation makes more sense from a business perspective.

Leftovers: Cooking a turkey for just leftovers does seem…. bizarre. Also, I could easily hear the Producer and kind of wish she more regularly joined the show.

    Or even worse, a Cthulu-Clown.

And our quements might seem more timely, if TMTH wasn’t so far behind in responding to them….

You don’t recover from Yanni, Yanni recovers from you.

It wouldn’t be Keanu. It would be the owners of the copyright of the original photograph on which all of the Sad Keanu meme images are based.

I don’t see how there can be shame in falling behind on this podcast when:
    a) Tony can’t keep up with the Nerdist.
    b) TMTH seems to be about 2 months behind in responding to quements.

We really *do* draw them randomly out of the Hat, so at anytime, we might get an email from the current week, or one from back before Episode 1!

FYI – I was at the SD Comic Con Nerdist recording and a lot of awesome stuff happened before and after the actual recording. For instance, Matt and Karen handed out Burritos to the audience in special TARDIS sleeves after the show.

2ndly, I was at the NY Comic Con recording with Jim Gaffigan which never aired because of recording issues.

So, if you’re a fan, it behooves you to go if you can reasonably afford it.

  3. Kiya Bee says:

The Bee family usually goes to someone else’s house on Thanksgiving, and are therefore not responsible for cooking the turkey or the majority of the feast. What I’ve done to obtain turkey leftovers, since our host usually doesn’t want to part with their leftovers, is cook a turkey on the day we decorate for Christmas. We’re just a family of three, so an average sized turkey can last us quite literally for a year, since I freeze any leftover turkey for soups, casseroles, etc. I’ve got to have my turkey sandwich with mashed potatoes and gravy; it just isn’t the holidays without it. Also, I never would have guessed that Tony’s dad would be fond of Tofurkey.

I’m surprised that no one else has made a meme; they’re really easy to make if one has a basic understanding of Photoshop. Hell, they can probably even be made in MS Paint. The one I made took about 30 minutes, starting from the search for pictures to saving it to be sent.

I remember Tony’s Yanni phase; in fact, I probably never would have heard of Yanni if it weren’t for Tony’s adoration of him in his younger years.
