Episode 24 : The Balcony is Open!

Okay, so we saw a lot of movies this week.  None of them in the theater, but still, quite a few.  So maybe we got a little carried away with that.  But come on… don’t you want to know what other cities are in Belgium besides Brussels, and whether or not Sucker Punch passes the Bechdel Test?  You know you do!

Also, we managed three questions, so relax… we got you covered.

Is there a particular Dresden files book that is really good? I’ve
only read the first one and found it kind of …. meh.

Not being familiar with the Traveler rules, but isn’t it possible
Dan’s character made enemies during his long, successful career as a
doctor and when Dan tried to switch over to “nobility” those enemies
worked to bring about his downfall?

Blade Runner didn’t suck and it also started out as a Phillip K. Dick
story. Also have you ever tried reading anything by Phillip K. Dick?
His stories seem to require excessive drug abuse to be tolerable, but
the adaptions to the various films usually seem vaguely better.

Were you talking about Ultraviolet or Ultraviolet? ‘Cuz I really
    liked Ultraviolet‘s British take on
X-Files/Vampire Slayers, while Ultraviolet was only kind
of interesting as a action flick.

I found the trailers for Adjustment Bureau to be extremely interesting
and then totally missed the movie when it hit the local theaters.
Since you were talking about it, I’ve finally remembered to add it to
    my Netflix queue.

I like most Pixar films include the shorts (excluding Boundin’, but
there’s a minor, interesting story to that unrelated to this comment).
The only major Pixar film I had zero interest in. I understand that
it’s done extremely well in merchandising. So while the Cars films do
nothing for me, I don’t think they can be considered the end of Pixar.
Also, Brave looks like it could be very good and I’m rather looking
forward to it. Lastly I’d wager Pixar’s got more control over their
films than you think they do. After all Lasseter became the CCO of both Pixar & Walt Disney
Animation Studios when Disney bought Pixar.

I can put ketchup on a hot dog; but if I’m going to lower my standards
to actually eating a hot dog, why not go all out and wrap the hot dog
in bacon & cheese? If B&C and
we’re talking about at a company/neighborhood picnic where ketchup is
the only topping available and the hot dogs are the cheapest of the
cheap; then adding ketchup is acceptable.

    Tony: Mayo? That’s sick.
William: Sauerkraut? That makes mayo sound good. *blech*

Ketchup injected hot dogs? Why not, they already do that with cheese
    food products. *shudder*

Tony: Seriously you’ve not watched the new BSG? Dude, I liked it
enough to buy the entire run of it (original miniseries, the entire
series and the movies). When you consider how cheap I am that’s really
saying something. We can get together sometime and watch it (or you
can borrow the DVDs if you’d like).

The only thing that I can remember from seeing the original BSG is the
robot dog. Probably that thing was stupid/useless to the story, but it
doesn’t stop me from still wanting one.

Plug: I’ve recently started listening to Thrilling Adventure Hour.
    It’s staged comedy
production in the style of an old-time radio show
    , recorded
live once a month in LA and is available as a podcast.

Mark: The first three Dresden files are pretty meh, but they pick up very quickly after that. If you want to get right into the meat hit book 4, but I really recommend you NOT do that. You will get way more out of it if you read all of them.
