Episode 15 : Welcome back!

We’re back!  You may not have noticed that, because we were still here, but we weren’t really, and now we are, so there.

Also, we go into depth about William’s various musical careers, and invent a new taste sensation!

No particular links, but we give you a special tip on a little-known author, so check him out.

  1. Bloodsparrow says:

There have been quality dubs in some older anime, and in the case of Cowboy Bebop it’s actually better.

    • themagicaltalkinghat says:

Really? I’ve been avoiding watching Cowboy Bebop entirely, because my access to it has only been dubbed, and I could have sworn everyone told me that the subtitles were much better! I should go check out Netflix now.

      • Bloodsparrow says:

Possibly the translation on the subtitles is better, but everybody I know (and I’ve known some hard core otaku) likes the dub of Cowboy Bebop.

  2. Bloodsparrow says:

    Name for fans:

    Hatters
    Haberdashers
    People Hated By Tony

  3. SirGuido says:

I like Hatters or Magical Hatters or ‘Dashers even.

Oh and btw you are totally wrong. Ezri Dax is CLEARLY the hottest Star Trek character. Though I admit I also have a strange obsession with B’elanna Torres.

  4. SirGuido says:

Oh, I also have to say that I am torn now as to whether or not I should write in more questions since you seem to do nothing but shit on me when you read my questions. =)

  5. Mick the Knife says:

Just so you guys know, listening to this podcast brought back memories of times long past, when we all would sit down together and just talk about anything that came to mind.

I’ll be sending you my next therapist bill.

    • themagicaltalkinghat says:

      I thought you might. 🙂

Yeah, pretty much our listener demographic is people who used to sit around and talk with the two of us, and people who wish they could sit and talk with the two of us.

  6. Mark says:

Finally getting caught up on the Hat (fell behind while listening to Happy Jacks back catalog).

The Graveyard Book was excellent, I’m kind of surprised William didn’t seem to care for it much. Then again, I can kind of relate to his not being impressed by it as I find a lot of Gaiman’s books to be meh. Side note: I’ve come across a better (not really for kids) children’s book, The Adventures of the Princess and Mr. Whiffle: The Thing Beneath the Bed by Patrick Rothfuss. Though you’d want to read that one twice and pay extra, special attention to the illustrations on your second read through.

As for hot Star Trek ladies, like Tony in my youth I liked Beverly Crusher but later I was rather fond of Kira form DS9.

There’s no question that subtitles are better. There are exceptions (Ghibli movies dubbed by Disney frequently work well) but the standard anime shows still usually have awful voice “actors” (who couldn’t act their way out of the brown paper bag their booze comes in).

I like Bloodsparrow’s suggestion of “Haberdashers”.

The Hat hates Tony. Tony fears the Hat. Tony deals with his fear by loathing the “Haberdashers”.

Many people have blacked out their years working for former employers. It’s a sanity survival tactic.

Forums suck. If people keep sending you stuff too long for the hat, just post it to the blog. Also Tony, you’re a bastard.
