Why does the Hat hate Chrome?

It has come to the attention of the Management that the new website and Google Chrome don’t play nice together.  You can usually load the page, but trying to play an episode, click on a link, or make a comment causes the page to hang basically forever.

The Management (lazy as we are) is looking into this.  In the meantime, I’m afraid the answer is just to open it in another browser.  Personally, the Management has set the homepage of Internet Explorer to be this page, and just uses it for editing the blog, while doing everything else internety in Chrome.

We apologize for any inconvenience, and if you send us a self-addressed stamped envelope, will be happy to refund a portion of your subscription fee.

Sincerely,

–The Management

TMTH hates Chrome? Are you sure? I use Chromium (the open source version of Google’s Chrome) to view TMTH‘s site all the time and haven’t had any problems*. While I generally listen to the podcast by downloading it via the feed, I didn’t have any problems clicking the play button on one of the episodes (it immediately started buffering and playing the opening). I’ve also tried the site in Firefox 4 and everything seemed to work fine.

    * Once I had a page hang on the new site in Chromium, but that only happened when I was logged into the site rather than when I commented without logging in. And by closing the tab hanging and opening a new tab (still in Chromium) it worked fine.

Well, at first I thought it was me, but we’ve now got three independent sources that have the same problem. It’s not 100%, but most of the time.

Maybe there’s an actual difference between Google Chrome and Chromium, that we’re not aware of?

You might want to check that your version of Google Chrome is up-to-date. In theory, I believe it’s supposed to auto-update, but that’s never worked for me (on my one remaining windows pc). Also I just realized I’m actually running the daily builds of Chromium for Ubuntu, so maybe whatever is wrong has already been fixed in my build.

Nah, I’ve got the latest version on two computers. The site loads, it just won’t load the comments section of a post. It’s very odd, there’s nothing unusual about WordPress so Chrome should be fine. Having said that, I can access the comments just fine from my Android, so it’s not a Webkit issue. I expect Chrome will get it patched up before long, they’re pretty quick.
