Dominion is fun, but probably the best board game I’ve ever played would be Betrayal at the House on the Hill.
I’ve never even heard of that one. Cool, a new game for Trish and I to check out!
Only downside to BatHotH is you really need at least 3 people to play it. On the upside, we own a copy and would be willing to come by sometime to play.
That’s so weird! Just earlier today I went with a friend to a coffee shop and as we were leaving some people were walking in and one of them had a game box under his arm. The title of the game was partially obscured so we had a discussion on what we thought it said and we agreed that it probably said “Dominion”. We wondered if it was fun and according to you… it is!

2ndly. I don’t know if you knew this, but I used to work in the video game industry which included a stint at Interplay. I worked on the Baldur’s Gate II expansion. In BGII, you could actually run into Drizt Do’Urden and his party as a random encounter. The encounter was friendly but if you were feeling Oy you COULD engage them in combat if you really wanted the equipment and wasn’t inclined to just spawn it in with cheats… It wasn’t easy to kill him as I recall.
Also, Drizt’s swords were called “Twinkle” and “Snowflake”.
If I remember correctly, he had a friend who was a Dwarf with a magic hammer that glowed and was pink.
Seriously, I’m not touching any of that with a 10′ pole.

My favorite card game has become “Caravan”. This is a game that was created for (and is a mini game in) the Fallout: New Vegas video game. ((http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Caravan_%28game%29)) I really love the concept of the game because it really makes sense as a game that is created in a post-apocalyptic environment where there’s lots of incomplete decks of cards scattered around like you would expect to find in a place that has lots of casinos. My friends and I became obsessed for a while playing caravan against each other in real life. We generally play with “subtractive” decks rather then playing with an unlimited number of cards like you can in FNV.
My favorite board game of all time is called “Last Night On Earth” (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Last_Night_on_Earth:_The_Zombie_Game). I wrote about it on the Happy Jack’s forum. Here’s what I said…
It’s a really cool board game where you essentially play a typical zombie movie. Some of the players play the “survivors” and one or two of them play the zombies.
We discovered it a year or two ago when we went to Dice House Games in Fullerton and they had a shelf where they displayed all their zombie themed board, card and dice games. We stood there looking at the shelf wondering which one was the best. One of the guys who worked there overheard us and said, “I can answer that!” They’d recently had a “zombie game day” where they played all these zombie games with customers and voted on the best one. LNoE was the hands down winner.
There are basic rules that govern movement and combat, different cards and character abilities that are exceptions to those rules and the rest depends on the senario you’re playing. Even the board changes pretty much every time (it’s modular) unless a scenario requires a particular location.
There are a number of expansions out for it now, and the base game comes with little bibs and bobs, some of which have no discernible use in any scenario included. We’ve started creating our own with their own scenario specific rules.
Also, it comes with a cheesy “soundtrack” for you to put in while you’re playing.
